We’ve seen some of the reasons the apostle John gives us as to why Jesus came early in first John. We’ll look today at 1 John 4:7-21 where John gives us many more reasons why Jesus came.
In this passage John says that:
* God, who is love, has shown us and given us his love in Jesus.
* Jesus came so that we could become the children of God
* Jesus came so that we could have new life
* Jesus came as the embodiment of God’s love
* Jesus came so that we could live in and through him
* Jesus came to show us that God loves us, and to show us what love is
* Jesus came to live a perfect life, and to be the sacrificial cleansing, the atonement, for our sins
* Jesus came to enable us to love others as an expression of the love we receive from him
*Jesus came so that we could grow to maturity in receiving and expressing his love
* Jesus came to give us his Spirit
* Jesus came to be the Savior of the world
* Jesus came so that we could have confidence on the day of judgement
*Jesus came so that we could be like him in the world
* Jesus came so that this love could eliminate that debilitating fear that cripples our lives
