We once again see a number of interconnected reasons why Jesus came, all pointing to God’s overarching purpose. In this passage to the church in Ephesus, we see that;
* Jesus came to redeem us through his own blood. This is just like what we hear Paul saying in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
* Redemption is the forgiveness of our sins. Different sides of the same coin.
* Paul doesn’t teach us in a cold or clinical manner. Paul uses over-the-top language to describe the Lord and his work.
* Paul says Jesus makes known the mystery of God’s will in all wisdom and insight. This means that Jesus came so that we would not be in the dark about what God is doing.
* The mystery, as we learn in other passages, is that sinful people can now be saved, and that through Jesus.
* All this is just the working out of God’s plan at the perfect time in history. Remember we said when we looked at Ephesians 1:3-6 that God has established his plan from even before the beginning of time. In his perfect wisdom and knowledge God knew the exact time in all of history for Jesus to secure salvation.
* Now, Paul then concludes this brief few verses by saying that Jesus came to restore all things to God. All of God’s gracious, sacrificing, and forgiving actions, the expressions of his love, are so that all things in heaven and all things on earth could be returned to him.
